How Age Is Calculated
At its core, calculating age means finding the difference between two calendar dates: your birth date and the date you’re measuring against. The calculator starts by comparing the year, then the month, and finally the day, working through them the same way you would if you were counting by hand.
If the day of the end date is earlier in the month than your birth day, a full month hasn’t been completed yet, so the calculator borrows days from the previous month to get an accurate count. The same logic applies to months versus years: if the current month falls before your birth month, a full year hasn’t passed, so one year is deducted and twelve months are added back into the month total.
Leap years complicate things because they add February 29th to the calendar roughly once every four years, following a rule where years divisible by 4 are leap years, except century years, which are only leap years if they’re also divisible by 400. This is why 2000 was a leap year but 1900 was not. When a birthday falls on February 29th and the current year isn’t a leap year, this calculator treats the birthday as falling on February 28th for the purposes of countdowns.
Once the year, month, and day components are settled, converting to weeks, hours, minutes, and seconds is just a matter of multiplying the total number of days by the appropriate factor.

In plain English: the calculator first figures out how many complete years, months, and leftover days sit between your birth date and the end date, “borrowing” from the previous month or year whenever a full unit hasn’t been completed yet. Example
Say someone was born on March 14, 1998, and wants to know their age as of July 26, 2026.
Counting the years first: 2026 minus 1998 is 28 years. Since July comes after March, a full year has already been completed, so no adjustment is needed. Counting the months: July (7) minus March (3) leaves 4 months. Since the 26th comes after the 14th, no days need to be borrowed, leaving 12 days.
The result: this person is 28 years, 4 months, and 12 days old, which works out to roughly 10,367 total days, or about 1,481 weeks, since their birth date.
